JEPSON CENTER// Brochure Design

The objective of this project was to redesign a museum’s promotional items. With all of my experience working to create new brand identities, I wanted to use this project as an opportunity to work within an established brand system.

For the brochure design, I wanted to pull from the vibrant color pallet from the interior of the museum. However, often in the space and the literature used by the museum, these bright colors are used in moderation with a mainly white backdrop. I completely understand that design decision, but I believe with something like a mailer or brochure, it is an opportunity to make a big impact in a small way. I flipped the script and used color blocking and white accents for a bolder and modern approach.

I opted to make a small gatefold brochure that when flat is 6’’x 20’’ and when folded is 6’’x 5.’’ I decided that due to the bold color choice, a smaller brochure would create some balance. I included information from a mailer I had gotten from the museum but organized the information differently for hierarchy, legibility and visual impact. On the front cover, I die cut out the shape that contained the logotype to create peek-a-boo effect that went in hand with the museum’s mission to promote discovery and surprise. Anticipating that most likely this brochure would be stickered closed for mailing purposes, I made sure that all of the most pertinent information, such as the address, hours and phone number were visible when closed.

Overall, I created a dynamic brochure that fell in line with an established brand identity. I also made sure to maintain and reflect the museum’s mission and philosophy into my work. By doing these two things I was able to represent the Jepson Center’s identity on paper.
